Ballina

Ballina is on the Far North Coast of NSW and boasts some of Australia’s finest sun-kissed beaches, freshwater rivers, natural rainforest and a thriving town centre.

Riverbend is within strolling distance of all of the amenities of West Ballina including grocery store, newsagents and pharmacy, doctor surgery, restaurants, the freshly refurbished local tavern and Ballina’s famous fish market – so you don’t have to go far for the essentials!

The Region

The Far North Coast is renowned for its pristine beaches, unbeatable sports and leisure facilities and its proximity to the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

The university town of Lismore is little over 30 minutes away and from there it’s easy access to the wide flats of Casino and Kyogle or the pristine rainforest of Nightcap National Park.

Ocean and Rivers

Ballina has several beaches, with the most popular in the north of the town.  Shelly Beach is a patrolled beach, also popular are Lighthouse Beach and the pretty swimming beach at Shaws Bay Lagoon.

The coastline is a beach lover’s dream with sheltered covers, vast ocean beaches and some of the world’s finest surf breaks.  32km of white beaches from Ballina to Lennox Head await you.  Relax along the coastline which has been regenerated by local dune care groups.

From May to October, enjoy excellent land based whale watching as the magnificent humpback whales make their annual migration.

Just 400 metres away from Riverbend is the boat ramp down to the Richmond River estuary, and further down the road, the coastal towns of Evans Head and Byron Bay.

Central Ballina is an island, completely surrounded by North Creek.

Activities

In Ballina itself you’ll find all your favourite shops plus a cinema, sports complex as well as acclaimed coffee shops, riverfront restaurants and RSL club and a short drive will get you to either the East Ballina 18-hole golf course or Teven 8 hole course.

You can relax and enjoy the vast expanses of the Richmond on a leisurely river cruise or explore the teeming wetlands of North Creek’s upper reaches by canoe.  Go bush with a four-wheel-drive adventure tour or take in Ballina’s spectacular coastline from the kilometres of well-paved cycle ways.

With its fabulous beaches and rolling hills there is so much to see and do in Ballina - or venture out for the day to Byron Bay or Lennox Head just a short drive north or into the hinterland. Here are a few suggestions...

• Put a toe in the crystal clear waters of North Creek
• Play a round of golf at Tevan or Ballina Golf Courses
• Take a cruise down the Richmond River and listen to a little of the history of the area
• Walk to the top of Mount Warning
• Visit the Naval Museum
• Explore the Northern Rivers and its hinterland

Come and go

In little over an hour, you can be amongst the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast, and in around two hours you can be in Brisbane.

For those looking to travel further afield, Ballina has a regional airport that is serviced by regular, affordable direct flights to Sydney and Melbourne and connections to most destinations in Australia and beyond.
